Imagine living in a rural environment like ours without a car!  Without a car how would you get to and from a job, the grocery store, a doctor’s appointment, or get your kids to and from school?  Especially in a rural setting, people need transportation to help them succeed.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is proud to assist families and individuals with critical transportation needs. We recognize that lack of a reliable vehicle has a detrimental impact on daily life—both short-term and long-term.

For those with no reliable source of transportation within their household we try to provide hope for the future. Whether it’s providing a vehicle or assisting with a vehicle repair, our mission is to provide reliable transportation for families to commute to school, work, and other necessary appointments.

Thank you for helping us serve those in our community with transportation needs.

To show the kind of impact our vehicle program is having on those in need we offer a note from a car recipient that we recently helped:

“Thank you for helping me get my new car. It is amazing! It means I don’t have to wait for hours before work for the store to open and after it has closed waiting for a ride. It has truly changed my life. It’s lovely to know there are still angels out there in the world, and you all are some of them. I will always appreciate what you have done for me.”

To ensure contributions from our members and donors is being spent wisely, all candidates to be considered for a vehicle repair or replacement must apply and are strictly vetted using the following guidelines:

  • In all cases, the repair or replacement must be for the ONLY vehicle owned by an individual or family.

  • The applicant must be a resident of Greene or Putnam County Georgia for a minimum of two years at the time of application.

  • Repairs are major, one-time repairs that are needed to ensure the applicant has transportation for travel to work, doctors, school, etc.

  • When a current vehicle is not repairable, vehicle replacements may be available—on a limited basis—to help applicants with transportation for travel to work, doctors, school, etc.

  • To qualify for a replacement vehicle the applicant must have a valid Georgia driver’s license AND have the means to obtain appropriate vehicle insurance.
